Israel Journal of Veterinary Medicine  Vol. 69 (4)  December 2014 171 www.ijvm.org.il
DATE: 28 AUGUST 2014
Tis letter refers to your inspiring, thought provoking
Editorial in IJVM Vol. 69 (2) June 2014. Indeed you have
voiced feelings of a true veterinarian. Veterinarians all over
the world are ordained by God to be in the noblest of all
noble professions! I fully agree with you that veterinarians,
irrespective of where they are working in this global village
must, as you rightly emphasized should inculcate “writing
experience” and develop this as a new art form. Chronicled
clinical experiences of feld veterinarians will be immense
beneft to the profession transcending national borders.
In my own personal experience, I continued scientifc
writing (along with teaching as a guest in the faculty) after
my superannuation on Feb. 29th, 1992 at the age of only 60.
I feel, I have still a long way to go; learning is a continuing
process! I would like to share with some of personal anecdotes
as a veterinarian who had the privilege of learning under
some of the greatest teachers and researchers of their time.
With best wishes for continuing success of the IJVM
under your dedicated stewardship.
Tanks for bearing with me,
Prof. (Dr.) I.C. Datta

I am an Israeli and American veterinarian and I have one
publication in IJVM and have since been publishing in other
peer reviewed journals.
I would like to submit more papers to IJVM in the future,
but am troubled by the fact that the journal papers are not
searchable in Pubmed.
I have read the requirements listed by pubmed for a
journal, and it seems that our Israeli journal should qualify. I
was interested in knowing if you foresee the future inclusion
of the IJVM in those searchable journals.
Tis would defnitely contribute to the status of the
journal and encourage more authors to submit to the paper.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Billie

REPLY:
Dear Dr. Billi Beckwith Cohen,
I have given a lot of thought to your letter and I want
to add a response to my previous one. Building a journal’s
reputation is a long and difcult task. I am in the process of
doing so and believe I am succeeding. Te number of citations
for 2014 has already reached record numbers and I believe
this is only due to the quality of articles being published and
appreciated worldwide.
I will apply to the PubMed in 2015 but I have learnt
that searches on the internet are carried out more and more
though “Google” and not necessarily on Medline itself. I
think that our success is proof of this.
Still I agree we must be accepted to PubMed. In this
regard I am constantly dealing with the phenomenon of the
“Chicken and the Egg”. If I were to receive good high quality
articles our changes of acceptance would greatly increase. In
this regard I have had some limited success in convincing
some of my senior colleagues who still insist on writing all
their articles to overseas journals. Teir contribution (of just
a few each year) to our journal would greatly aid in getting
us into PubMed.
In this spirit, I invite you to write a review article of
your choice of subject for the journal. Your contribution is
important and will help to continue to generate a quality
Israeli journal of veterinary science.
I hope I have convinced you.
Best regards
Dr. Trevor Waner
